here is a specific kind of quiet that settles over Hunstanton South Beach as the tide begins its retreat. Being one of the rare stretches on England’s East Coast that faces due west, it offers a front-row seat to sunsets that feel almost out of place in Norfolk. On this particular evening, I was struck by the way the light caught the tops of the old sea defenses, highlighting decades of salt-weathering and barnacle growth.

To translate that sense of coastal calm into the frame, I used a long exposure technique paired with a neutral density (ND) filter. This allowed me to significantly slow the shutter speed even in the bright evening light, distilling the restless movement of the North Sea into a soft, ethereal veil. By smoothing the water, the heavy, grounded lines of the wooden groynes become the focal point, creating a minimalist bridge between the shore and the horizon.

To ensure these delicate tonal shifts and the deep textures of the timber are preserved, each piece is produced in a professional digital lab using Fuji Professional archival paper. This ensures that the quiet drama of the Norfolk coast is captured with the same depth and clarity I saw through the lens, maintaining its vivid quality for years to come.
